About the Merit Badge

The Quilted Garment badge celebrates the creative fusion of quilting and fashion, encouraging Scouts to construct a wearable quilted item. This badge pushes Scouts to apply their quilting skills in a new way. It fosters creativity, skill-building, and experimentation with texture, structure, and design, resulting in a unique, handcrafted piece of clothing.

Requirements

• Choose a pattern for a quilted garment such as a jacket, vest, hat, or mittens. You can design your own or use an existing pattern.
• Plan the quilted sections of the garment. This may include piecing together quilt blocks or using whole cloth quilting.
• Quilt the fabric using your preferred method (hand quilting, machine quilting, or a combination), paying attention to both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the quilting.
• Assemble the garment using your quilted fabric, following the pattern instructions. Focus on ensuring proper fit, construction quality, and attention to detail in the finishing techniques. Pay particular attention to the functionality and wearability of the garment. Make sure seams, closures, and edges are well-finished.
• Once completed, wear your quilted garment and take photos of the finished piece.
