Frequently Asked Questions

A Quilt Scouts Base Camp is a local quilting “troop” hosted by a fabric shop, quilt store, or sewing studio. It’s a place where quilters can gather, sew together, earn badges, and build community—all with the spirit of adventure and creativity that Quilt Scouts is known for. You run the show locally, and Quilt Scouts HQ supports you with tools, badges, and ideas!

Yes. To participate in Base Camp activities and earn badges, all quilters must be active Quilt Scouts members in good standing. This ensures everyone is getting the full experience (like access to digital content, patterns, and badge codes), and it helps support the sustainability of the program.

You’re welcome to host public-facing events at your shop, but the Quilt Scouts portion of those events—like earning a badge—must be for members only.

Use our Base Camp Locator or check with your favorite local quilt shop to see if they host one. You can also peek inside the Quilt Scouts online community, where local troops are listed by state. Don’t see one in your area? Sounds like the perfect time to start your own!

Yes! If you own or run a quilt shop, fabric store, or sewing studio—or if you have a crew of local quilters interested in starting a troop—you can apply to become a Base Camp Host. It’s free to join, and you’ll get support, resources, and wholesale access to official Quilt Scouts badges and materials.

Nothing! Quilt Scouts doesn’t charge a fee to become a Base Camp. You’re welcome to charge your own class or event fees to cover time, materials, or staffing—but there’s no cost to affiliate your shop with the Base Camp program.

Right now, support includes:
• A Base Camp window cling to proudly display
• Meeting and badge activity ideas delivered seasonally
• Access to wholesale badges and official gear
• Marketing tips, suggested language, and promotional templates
• A direct line to Quilt Scouts HQ (aka Megan!) for questions and cheerleading
And more support is on the way as the program grows—early Base Camp leaders are blazing the trail!

When you become a Base Camp host, you’ll receive:
• A Quilt Scouts Base Camp window cling to proudly show you’re part of the adventure
• Ideas and inspiration for meetings, events, and badge activities
• Access to official Quilt Scouts badges and gear for your Base Camp Scouts
• A direct contact (that’s me!) for questions, brainstorming, and cheering you on 🛶

I’m just getting Base Camp launched, so support is simple (but mighty!) for now — and I have big dreams for growing even more resources down the trail. Thanks for pioneering with me! 🌟

Once you’ve signed the Base Camp Agreement, you can advertise classes and gatherings as “Quilt Scouts Base Camp” events. You’ll also receive a kit with approved branding and badge use guidelines, so your promotions stay in line with the trademark and messaging requirements. (If you haven’t signed the agreement yet, please avoid using “Quilt Scouts” in your event titles.)

Yes—with a few important guidelines:
• Only active members can receive badges
• You can purchase official badges at wholesale pricing from Quilt Scouts HQ (once you’re a Base Camp)
• You’re not allowed to create your own Quilt Scouts badges, patches, or merchandise
• Badges must only be used in connection with Quilt Scouts-approved events or member activities

Host safe, fun, clearly communicated events or classes
• Use official Quilt Scouts materials and badges only (no DIY badges, please!)
• Maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for Scouts of all skill levels
• Follow your state and local laws (like ADA compliance, permits, etc.)
• Stick to the brand guidelines (don’t remix the logo, co-brand with other orgs, or host political/third-party events under the Quilt Scouts name)

You’re the local Troop Leader—we just provide the compass and a few trail snacks. 🧭

No problem. The agreement is for one year at a time and can be ended at any point with written notice. We just ask that you return any unused badges and stop using the name “Quilt Scouts” in future event promotions after termination.

It’s easy! Just fill out the Base Camp Application Form and tell us a little bit about your shop and your dreams for your Base Camp. We’ll review your application and help you hit the trail!
