A book tour post for Cozy Quilts for the Modern Home
Some quilts feel like a deep breath.
That’s the best way I can describe Cozy Quilts for the Modern Home by Abby Luchsinger—a book that invites you to slow down, notice the season you’re in, and make something that feels steady and lived-in rather than rushed.
I’m so excited to be part of Abby’s virtual book tour, and today I’m sharing a closer look at one of the projects from the book that instantly stole my heart: the Cloverly Quilt.

A Quilt Book Built Around the Seasons
Cozy Quilts for the Modern Home includes 16 projects, thoughtfully organized into four seasonal chapters—Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Each chapter includes a mix of full quilts and smaller projects, all designed with approachability and longevity in mind.
This isn’t a book you flip through once and shelve.
It’s the kind of book you keep nearby—dog-eared, bookmarked, and slowly worked through as your energy and curiosity allow. Abby’s instructions are clear and calm, and the projects feel flexible enough to grow with you as a maker.

Why I Chose the Cloverly Quilt
The Cloverly Quilt lives in the Spring chapter, and it felt like the perfect choice for me right now—especially given the time of year.
With February here and March just around the corner, I’m already feeling that familiar seasonal shift. The days are getting a little longer, the light feels different, and there’s that quiet restlessness of late winter—the sense that something new is stirring even if the ground is still cold.
My birthday is in March, and I’ve always felt a connection to this in-between season. St. Patrick’s Day, the spring equinox, the return of green after months of gray—it’s all wrapped together for me. Clover has always felt symbolic of that moment: hopeful, grounded, and quietly resilient.
Sewing the Cloverly block felt a lot like that transition. Not full-on spring yet, but clearly pointing toward it. A reminder that cozy doesn’t mean stagnant—and that creative work can be both restful and forward-looking at the same time.
This block feels like a little stitched nod to the season ahead, and that makes it even more special to me.
Sewing the Cloverly Block: A Few Things I Loved
The Cloverly block is bold and graphic without being fussy, playful in a way that still feels timeless. Each block is made from four leaf units, and the construction is incredibly satisfying.
A few things that really stood out to me:
- Clear construction: Even with multiple steps, everything felt logical and approachable.
- Color play: The design shines when you use multiple colors in a single block. It’s a great way to experiment without committing to an entire quilt.
- Versatility: One block, twelve blocks, a full quilt—or something smaller. The pattern adapts beautifully.
- That shape: The clover leaf edges are soft, geometric, and very Abby.
If you enjoy quilts that look complex but are built from calm, doable techniques, this one is such a joy to sew.
A Little Extra Cozy: Turning Mine Into a Pillow
I made a single Cloverly block and already know it’s headed toward a quilted throw pillow for my couch—one of those pieces that quietly anchors a room without shouting for attention.
This is one of the things I appreciate most about Abby’s work: it always feels practical in the best way. Beautiful, yes—but also meant to live with you. On couches, chairs, and places where quilts get used and loved.

If you want to hear more about the heart behind the book, I recently had Abby on The Quilt Scouts Podcast, where we talked about:
- Designing quilts around seasons instead of trends
- What “cozy” really means in a modern home
- Balancing creativity, business, and life as a maker
It’s one of those conversations that feels like a warm mug and a long walk—highly recommend.
Final Thoughts
Cozy Quilts for the Modern Home is a book I’d happily recommend to confident beginners and seasoned quilters alike. It’s encouraging without being simplistic, inspiring without being intimidating, and deeply thoughtful in its design.
Huge congratulations to Abby on this beautiful book. I’m so grateful to sew alongside friends whose work feels like home—and whose quilts remind us that seasons change, stitches add up, and spring always finds its way back.
If you pick up the book and make something from it, I’d love to hear what you choose.
