Quilt Camp 2025 is officially open for registration, and you’re invited to snag your spot for the ultimate quilting adventure.

This isn’t your average retreat—it’s a full-blown summer camp experience for grown-up quilters who crave fresh air, friendship, and free sewing time. Think archery, kayaking, yoga, and s’mores—plus a dedicated sewing lodge, exclusive swag, and new BFFs who also hoard fabric “just in case.”

About Independent Lake Camp

Independent Lake Camp is located in the northern tip of the Pocono Mountains near the City of Scranton, Pennsylvania. The camp is set on 300 pristine acres and includes a beautiful waterfront on the 100-acre, private, Independent Lake. ILC is in a rural area between the small towns of Orson and Thompson, PA. The camp sits amidst the clean Pocono mountain air, at 2,500 feet elevation. This causes temperatures to vary – with very limited humidity, beautiful sunny days and cool nights that are perfect for sleeping.

How to Get There

Independent Lake Camp is easily accessible from multiple major airports:

  • Scranton Airport (AVP): About 1 hour away
  • New York (JFK/LGA/EWR) or Newark (EWR) Airports: About 2.5 hours away
  • Philadelphia Airport (PHL): About 3 hours away

Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the fresh mountain air, scenic lakeside views, and a community of quilters ready for an unforgettable weekend!

  • 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Arrival & Check-in
  • 6:30 PM: Welcome Dinner & Campfire Kickoff
  • 8:00 PM: Nightly S’mores Bar & Bonfire (weather permitting)
  • 9:00 PM – Late: Open Sewing & Social Time

Friday, September 19

  • 7:30 AM: Morning Hike (optional)
  • 8:30 AM: Breakfast
  • 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Free Time for Quilting & Sewing
  • 12:00 PM: Lunch
  • 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Classic Camp Activity (Choose from Archery, Kayaking, or Hiking)
  • 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Quilting Workshop / Open Sew
  • 6:00 PM: Dinner
  • 7:30 PM: Friendship Bracelet Workshop
  • 8:30 PM: Campfire & Nightly S’mores Bar
  • 9:30 PM – Late: Open Sewing & Social Time

Saturday, September 20

  • 7:30 AM: Morning Yoga (optional)

Sunday, September 21

What to Pack

Be sure to bring:

  • Quilting Supplies: Sewing machine, fabric, thread, rotary cutter, rulers, and any special materials for workshops. Here’s a great post about “How to Travel with your Sewing Machine”
  • Comfortable Clothing: Layers for cool mornings/evenings and warmer afternoons.
  • Outdoor Gear: Comfortable shoes for outdoor activities
  • Toiletries: Don’t forget bug spray, and sunscreen
  • Extras: A refillable water bottle, a notebook for quilt inspiration, and anything else to make your camp experience cozy!

FAQs

Do I need to be a Quilt Scouts member to attend?

No! While this retreat is hosted by Quilt Scouts, guests and prospective members are welcome. However being a Quilt Scout member does have its perks (like a discounted ticket)!

Can beginners attend?

Absolutely! Quilt Camp is open to all skill levels, from first-time quilters to seasoned pros.

What quilt projects should I bring?

You can bring any personal project to work on during free sew times. If specific workshops require materials, we’ll let you know in advance!

Can I bring my own food?

Meals are provided, but you are welcome to bring any food or snacks you would like.

I have a food allergy. Can I get allergy-friendly meals?

Independent Lake can accommodate many diets — vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and most allergies. 

What are the sleeping arrangements like?

Bunkhouse cabins have shared sleeping areas with twin-sized bunks. If you prefer more privacy, private rooms are available.

Can I request a bunkmate?

Yes! If you have a friend attending, you can request to bunk together.

What’s the cancellation policy?

The registration fee is non-refundable.
